Surgical Patient Guide

228-575-2205

On the Day of Your Pre-operative Appointment Please Bring:

  • Orders from your physician (if they were given to you)
  • Identification cards
  • Insurance cards
  • Medications you are taking (in the original bottles)
  • Any copies of lab work, EKGs or X-rays

If you are having sedation, you will likely need to have lab work, an EKG and a chest X-ray. Certain procedures will require further pre-operative tests.

Scheduled patients will be seen as close to their scheduled appointment time as possible. Walk-ins will be worked in between appointments. Every effort will be made to minimize delays.

Pre-Operative Instructions

  • Do not eat or drink anything (including water) after midnight of the day before your surgery, unless given specific instructions by an anesthesiologist or nurse. This could require your procedure to be rescheduled.
  • Do not wear fingernail polish, make-up, jewelry, or contacts.
  • Do bring any medications you may be taking.
  • Do arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home if you are an outpatient.
  • Do contact your physician immediately if you have changes in your physical condition before surgery, such as a cold, fever, persistent cough or rash.

Post-Operative Information

If you had an outpatient procedure, you will receive written discharge instructions, and a nurse will call you the day after your surgery to check on you.

If you are an inpatient, your family will be able to remain in the surgery waiting room until you are admitted to a room.
