Orthopedic Surgeon Michael Stonnington Joins Memorial Hospital and Physician Clinics

Memorial Hospital and Physician Clinics is pleased to welcome Orthopedic Surgeon Michael Stonnington. In a combined partnership with George Regional Health System, Dr. Stonnington will provide orthopedic services at Stonnington Orthopedics and Joint Replacement Clinics in Gulfport, Biloxi and Lucedule. Dr. Stonnington, along with Nurse Practitioner Kelley DeBar, will begin seeing patients on August 3.

Dr. Stonnington is an accomplished and experienced primary and revision joint replacement surgeon who specializes in robotic joint replacements and minimally invasive, muscle sparing total hip arthroplasties. In addition, he is one of the few orthopedic surgeons in Mississippi proficient in pelvic and acetabular fracture repairs/reconstructions. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham while serving in the USAF Reserve. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Florida in Gainesville. After completing his training in Orthopedic Surgery, he served on Active Duty as a Staff Orthopedic Surgeon at Keesler Air Force Base for three years. He began a private practice career as a partner of Southern Bone and Joint Specialists in Hattiesburg. He was a founder of the Orthopedic Trauma Service at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, where he served twice as Chief of Staff including Department of Surgery Chairman. Dr. Stonnington was inducted into the Doctors’ Hall of Fame by the Forrest General Healthcare Foundation in April 2018.  He also received the Dr. Philip W. Rogers Quality Award for Leadership at Forrest General Hospital in December 2019. 

He and his wife Katie, have three children and own Stonnington Farm Beef (a 100% grassfed operation) in Perkinston, where he and his family have lived for nearly 25 years. 

Dr. Stonnington is board certified in orthopedic surgery and has been serving the residents of south Mississippi for more than 23 years.
