Memorial Hospital Foundation Announces Burdonne Young Scholarship Winners

The Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced this year’s winners of the Burdonne Young Scholarship. The scholarships are named in honor of the late Burdonne Young, former nurse for Memorial Hospital for over 50 years. These scholarships are awarded annually.

Scholarships in a healthcare related field were awarded to Shelby Gable and Patrick Stovall.

Shelby is the daughter of Stephanie Gable, RN, Lactation Consultant. She is a 2011 graduate of Hancock High School where she was a section leader of the marching band and a member of the Art Club and Beta Club. She also served as newspaper staff co-editor. She will be attending the University of Southern Mississippi Honors College in the fall where she plans to pursue a career in medicine.

Patrick is the son of Linda Stovall, Program Manager for Rehabilitation. He is a 2011 graduate of St. Stanislaus College where he was involved in numerous sports and a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. He was also involved in several government activities at school and youth programs with St. Thomas Catholic Church. Patrick will be attending the University of Mississippi in the fall where he plans to major in Pre-Med.

Scholarships in a non-healthcare related field were awarded to Brittany Bright and Meghan Lind.

Brittany is the daughter of Kathleen Wells, Respiratory Therapist. She is a 2011 graduate of Gautier High School where she was President of the Student Council, a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Key Club, and a Varsity Cheerleader. She was a volunteer for the AKAettes and helped raise money for several non-profit organizations. She will be attending Mississippi State University in the fall where she plans to major in Business Administration.

Meghan is the daughter of Diane Lind, CT/MRI Clinical Coordinator. In high school, she was a member of the Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. She also volunteers with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Hattiesburg, Habitat for Humanity and Pine Meadows Nursing Home. She is currently attending the University of Southern Mississippi where she is pursuing a degree in Political Science.
