GULFPORT, Miss. — For the seventh consecutive year, National Research Corporation (NRC) has recognized Memorial Hospital at Gulfport among the nation’s top hospitals as a 2013/14 Consumer Choice Award winner. NRC has honored hospitals whose healthcare consumers have rated as having the best quality and image nationally. Memorial was selected as having the highest quality, best image/reputation, best doctors and best nurses.

“We strive to provide the highest quality of care for our patients, and it is an honor to be ranked among some of the nation’s most reputable and respected health care facilities,” said Gary G. Marchand, MPH, President/CEO, Memorial Hospital at Gulfport.

Winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings. From the households surveyed, hospitals named by consumers are analyzed and ranked based on their Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, with the winning facilities being ranked the highest. NRC is recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the largest patient satisfaction firms in the U.S.

“We are thrilled to offer this annual award because we understand how important the role of reputation plays in healthcare consumer decision-making,” said Susan L. Henricks, President and Chief Operating Officer at NRC. “These winners have done an outstanding job of representing their organizations in terms of high quality care, improvement initiatives, and positive consumer perceptions and experiences. The consumers have spoken. And we congratulate the winning hospitals in receiving this honor.”

Memorial Hospital was also recently ranked as the #1 hospital in Mississippi by U.S. News & World Report for being the only facility in the state to earn national recognition in any of the adult specialties studied by U.S. News. Memorial also had the most specialties of any hospital in the state to be designated as “High Performing” and ranked 42nd nationally in Diabetes and Endocrinology care.
