A diagnosis of cancer today often comes with a strong probabililty of recovery. In fact, nearly half of the cancers treated today are cured through surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or a combination of treatments. Although there are more than 100 different types of cancer, they share one thing in common - the physical and emotional effects on the patients, their families and friends.
Memorial offers a complete range of oncology services. What this means to you, the patient, is technologically advanced and compassionate services for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer close to your home and family.

Memorial is a leader with state-of-the-art technology to treat cancers with higher, more effective doses, while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue. The equipment, treatment techniques, and skills of the department staff provide patients the best possible treatment available. The Department works closely with medical oncologists and surgeons to provide comprehensive cancer care in an environment of excellence.
Radiation Therapy is a method of treating most cancers. Sometimes called radiotherapy, X-ray therapy, or irradiation therapy - radiation therapy uses special technology and machines to get a three-dimensional view of the tumor. This process is called simulation.
A treatment plan is based on the simulated view. The cancer is treated with a specified dose of radiation with a machine called a linear accelerator. The number of treatments depends on the type of cancer and the extent of the disease.
