Memorial Physician Clinics Welcomes Lainie Jorns, MD
October 13, 2014

GULFPORT, Miss. — Memorial Physician Clinics welcomes Lainie Jorns, MD, in the practice of Family Medicine at 1110 Broad Ave., Suite 700, Gulfport.

Dr. Jorns graduated Summa cum laude with her undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She earned her medical doctorate at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. Dr. Jorns completed her Palliative Medicine Fellowship and Family Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, Florida.

Dr. Jorns is Board Certified in Family Medicine and is awaiting board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Along with primary care, Dr. Jorns will also be scheduling outpatient palliative care consults in her clinic. To schedule an appointment, call (228) 864-0314.
Memorial Elects Medical Staff Officers
October 14, 2014

GULFPORT, Miss. —Memorial Medical Staff Officers were elected on September 16, 2014, and began serving their terms October 1. They will serve through 2016.

Alton Dauterive, MD, was elected Chief of Staff. Dr. Dauterive is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons who was appointed to the Medical Staff of Memorial Hospital in July of 1986. He is a graduate of Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his Internship and Residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and his Fellowship in Vascular Surgery at LSU School of Medicine. Dr. Dauterive served as Vice- Chief from 2012 to 2014.

Charles Slonaker, MD, was elected Vice-Chief of Memorial Medical Staff. Dr. Slonaker is Board Certified in Blood Banking, Clinical Pathology, and Anatomic Pathology. He is a graduate of The University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. He was Fellowship trained in Blood Banking at St. Luke's Episcopal in Houston, Texas. Dr. Slonaker completed his Pathology Residency at St. Luke's Episcopal and The University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He has been practicing on the Gulf Coast for over 30 years. Dr. Slonaker served as Secretary-Treasurer from 2012 to 2014.

Joseph Bosarge, MD, was elected Secretary-Treasurer. He was appointed to the Medical Staff in 2009. Dr. Bosarge is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care. He received his medical doctorate, PhD and Fellowship training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Dr. Bosarge completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
Will Rogers Institute Donates $41,225 to Memorial Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
October 20, 2014

GULFPORT, Miss.— On Friday, September 19, 2014, The Will Rogers Institute presented a check for $41,225 to the Memorial Hospital Foundation. The funds were awarded as a grant and will be used to purchase a cutting edge Bunnell Life Pulse High Frequency Jet Ventilator for Memorial Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The Jet ventilator is a unique style of ventilation that cannot be replicated by any other machine. Some infants have severe lung disease with either cysts, or emphysema like changes, or air leaks that don't respond to other strategies that get can be saved by this type of ventilation.

"We truly appreciate the generosity of the Will Rogers Institute. This piece of equipment gives our team another tool to treat critically-ill newborns at Memorial," said Dr. David Kuhlmann, Neonatologist at Memorial.

“It’s an honor for us to be able to partner with Regal Entertainment Group to fund the much needed equipment. None of this would be possible without their help. The staff at Memorial is doing such important work and we could not be happier to be a part of it,” said Christina Blumer, Donor Relations and Event Manager for The Will Rogers Institute.

Memorial Hospital First Choice Among Consumers Eight Years in a Row

NRC has honored hospitals whose healthcare consumers have rated as having the best quality and image nationally. Memorial Physician Clinics Welcomes General Surgeon
October 21, 2014

GULFPORT, Miss. —Memorial Physician Clinics welcomes David Trey Rimmer III, MD, in the practice of general surgery at Memorial Physician Clinic, 835 Thames Avenue in Bay St. Louis and in the Memorial Medical Office Building, Suite 240, where he joins General Surgeons Scott Blackburn, DO; Kristine Carter, MD; and Derek Ware, MD.

Dr. Rimmer received his undergraduate degree from Northeast Louisiana University. He earned his medical doctorate from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine in Shreveport. Dr. Rimmer completed his residency in General Surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.
