Become a Hospice Volunteer
Volunteers go to the patient's home to help caregivers by offering companionship, shopping, writing cards and other such duties.
Memorial offers a comprehensive Volunteer Training Program twice a year, or as needed. Volunteers average about four hours a week, either in patient care, bereavement, office work or fundraising.
Volunteers are screened and interviewed prior to training. Interested applicants should fill out an application prior to the next training session.

Have you ever had to face the heartbreaking news that a loved one has a terminal illness? Did you ever feel like there was no place to turn for much needed support? Memorial's Hospice team is ready to help. Most people do not want to face the end of life alone in a sterile, impersonal surrounding. Memorial Hospice provides assistance so that terminally ill patients can spend their last days at home with pain and symptom control surrounded by the people, pets and things that they love.
Memorial Hospice encourages patients to be independent and active for as long as possible, teaches the family to care for their loved one and, after death, helps the family through their bereavement period.
Advantages of Hospice Care
Hospice treats the person instead of the disease, focuses on the family instead of just the patient and emphasizes quality of life, not its duration.
Hospice care allows terminally ill patients and their families to experience the end of life together, in the comfort and security of their own home.
Hospice uses the combined knowledge and skills of an interdisciplinary team of professionals including physicians, nurses, Hospice aides, social workers, spiritual caregivers and counselors.
Hospice care is a cost-effective alternative to services provided in hospitals, nursing homes and other institutional settings.
Hospice is the preferred choice of healthcare delivery for terminally ill patients and their families.
