Managed care is a means of providing health care services within a defined network of health care providers, physicians and facilities, who are given the co-responsibility of managing and providing quality, cost-effective health care.
MHG & Physicians Corporation is a physician-hospital organization (PHO) formed in 1986. Since then, it has grown in membership to include more than 200 physician members, Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, Hancock Medical Center and three Outpatient Surgery Centers.
The PHO assists physicians, hospitals, employers, and employees in partnership to efficiently use health care resources. Employees are protected against balance billing from physicians and hospitals; employers pay a reduced, contracted price for health care services; hospitals and physicians gain a predictable number of patients. This is one of several strategies available in response to escalating health care costs.
